October Voicetest (since several folks seem to be voicetesting this month :) )

Here be rules and explanatory things!~
1. Taking part is not mandatory! If you wish to test-drive a new muse, here's the place, but if you'd rather app them without testing - that's perfectly legit, too. :3

2. There are suggestions for scenarios behind the cut. You can use the RNG to roll a relationship and a situation, but you are absolutely free to come up with a scenario of your own. It's more like a friendly suggestion/bit of inspiration from out side.~

3. You may voicetest as many characters at once as you like, and testing them here doesn't make apping mandatory. It's supposed to help you get a hold on the character's voice and to help you decide whether they would fit into the setting or not.

4. Please, keep the following in mind:
a) nothing that happens in this meme is canon or has to be taken into the game. This applies to both the CR and the situation at hand - though if you like it? Talk about it and make it canon once your muse got in.~
b) taking part does not assure that your muse will get into the game.
c) it's just a meme. It's here to help and to have fun, nothing more, nothing less.

5. For the voicetesting characters only: please fill out the short form below:.

Player name: Your name/online alias
Character name: Your character's name.
Character Rank/Suit: The rank your character holds and the suit they are in.
Short description: Three to five short sentences that will give some basic information on your character. This could include their occupation (or whether they are new to the deck), mention existing relationships to characters already in the game (as long as that has been discussed with the character's muns) and maybe a few words on the character's personality. Don't link to an already written app/the character's whole history/an essay on their personality. It's just supposed to be a synopsis.

The information given here is not yet set canon, so you are perfectly free to change it for the actual app.~

6. You can also post a character that is already in the game so people can bounce their voicetesting characters off of you! Actually, this is very much welcomed. Do it! :D If you want to.

As stated above, here is a list of the relationships and scenarios you can roll out in case you don't want to come up with something else or just like randomness a lot.

Relationships
1. Acquaintances - You have seen each other around, but rarely exchanged more than a couple of words. Time to chance that!
2. Friends - What it says on the tin. Maybe you've known each other for a long time, maybe not - whichever works best.
3. Colleagues - For some reason, you two work together a lot - be it cross-suit work or inter-suit things, you keep ending up doing important stuffs together.
4. Lovers - What it says on the tin. Secret or not, just crushing or close to married, it's The Wuv between you two.
5. Exes - When No. 4 went bad. This may or may not get awkward.
6. ENEMIES - You hate each other. That's all there is to say.
7. ??? GO WILD!

Situations
1. Surprise!assignment - For some reason, your King/Queen/whoever decided you two should work together on a ~~gloriously random~~ project. Even crackier when it's off-suit.
2. Suddnely, date. - Can be a blind date, an assignment taking a funny route or an Actual Date (or whatever else, really). Go out, have fun. Wheee.
3. Challenges! - Either that person challenged you, or you challenged that person, or you are going to challenge soon or ... whatever challenge-related scenario you want to have here.
4. Morning After - What happened last night? Where are we? I have no idea, you play it out.
5. Party, PARTY! - It's time to celebrate a thing! IDEC what thing! Maybe it's a masquerade or a fun evening at the Four Suits Pub...
6. Bad Day - For all your emo needs. One person has a bad day, the other comforts them. Or makes it worse. Or anything else.
7. ??? GO WILD.

It's a bad day, plain and simple. Some days are better than others, but today simply is not one of them. The framed photos which normally bring him so much joy are face-down on his desk while he grumbles about being out of tea. Means he'll have to call down to the kitchens and have someone who is decidedly Not Isaac bring it up to him.

Which is something he's been trying very hard to avoid. But now he has no choice, and it must be done. The call is made in quiet tones with his jaw clenched tight, and then he's back to sorting through files, not looking at anything but the print on the page. Must Not Acknowledge Emotions.

The knock on the door will come barely minutes after he's made the call. Minnie waits for a moment before letting herself in, setting the tea service down on a side table. Before she pours the tea, however, she turns to address him, head ducked politely. "Your Majesty."

"Melinda," he answers simply. No, he's not going to watch her pour his tea. He'll glance up to acknowledge her presence, of course, but accepting this is hard. Harder than it should be, really. "Thank you. I trust that things are- well, downstairs?" ...Awkward. And painful. And awkward.

She lets out a breath, then pours his tea carefully, setting the cup and the saucer on his desk. "Things are proceeding smoothly, sir. There aren't any problems that I need to bring to your attention." After a moment's hesitation, she adds on, "that is, there aren't any problems that I cannot overcome myself."

It's a good thing she made that addendum, really. The mood he's in, it wouldn't be hard for Silas to have interpreted that as her simply not thinking he can handle the problem, so there's no point in mentioning it.

...There was a warning that the witch is on his broom today.

"I'm glad things are going well, then. I expected a stumble after Isaac's...departure, but there hasn't seemed to be one." And maybe that's why it's so difficult. His entire world has been turned upside down, and everyone else keeps surging forward like nothing has happened.

"If you'll pardon me, sir, my predecessor's departure was quite the stumbling block. But it's now time to pick ourselves up and move on. Or... so I believed when I was promoted to this position." Obviously, there are other people who don't feel the same way. Not mentioning any names.

Just a shrug. It's noncommittal and unobtrusive. "Things must always continue in a way that causes neither harm nor distress. We are the Diamonds, graceful under pressure and shining even in the darkest of times. Take pride in that."

Of course, he's not sure whether he's trying to convince her, or himself.

"We do take pride in that, your Majesty. Am I correct?" She raises an eyebrow daringly. There isn't quite a challenging tone in her voice, but it's close.

"Of course you are." And he only just manages to not sound rude or condescending.

Don't tempt him, Miss Four. Really.

"Good. How much sugar do you like in your tea?" She smiles quietly at him, opening the bowl of sugar cubes and waiting for his answer.

"Two, please," he says simply, answering her smile with a small one of his own. He can't well be mean to her, even though she's trying to replace Isaac. But then, she's only doing her job.

Damn.

After dropping the cubes in the tea, she carefully gives the milk jug to him, waiting expectantly. In a soft voice, she murmurs, "thank you, your Majesty."

He takes the milk and adds a little bit to the tea, stirs it in with a lifted brow. "I don't really know what you're thanking me for, Miss Pan. But, for future reference, something smaller than a jug would be ideal if I'm adding my own milk." It doesn't sound condescending, just tired.

"You won't be adding your own milk again, your Majesty, but if the rare occasion were to arise, I'll be sure to keep that in mind."

With a single nod, Silas sets his tea down to cool to a drinkable temperature. "Thank you, then. I do appreciate it." He just doesn't sound appreciative. It isn't personal, honest.

"Is there anything else you're needing?"

“... No, sir.” It’s disappointing, to still hear that tone of Not-Quite-Approval in his voice... but it can be a project. A long-term project. “If there’s nothing else you need, I’ll take my leave now.”

"You may go. Be safe, and enjoy the rest of your day." His smile is hardly more than a lift of the corners of his mouth, and then he's back to work and tea. "Please, keep the tea coming. It's a tea day."

Short description: Housekeeper of the Clubs and Argine's handmaiden. She is Deck-born, originally from the Heart Suit. Her father is Dybbuk's cousin. She has a fraternal twin sister who is a watchmaker and has been standing in for Isaac while the Diamonds look for a new butler. Carmilla's mother encouraged her to find a position among the castle staff, regardless of Suit, which is how she came to be a Club. She is married to Jonathan Montenegro (an NPC with Jack Davenport as a PB) but their careers tie them to their respective Suits and keep them living apart. She is quite the domestic goddess, very much a lady. She enjoys horse riding but does not hunt (she finds it unethical), preferring dressage and show jumping. She has a basic knowledge of self defence but does not practice a particular martial art. Carmilla knows all the castles like the back of her hand as her mother's relatives worked in each of them. Anything else will be found under her profile.

Leona wasn't sure what to make of things lately. Sure, Argine retiring was for everyone's own good (face it, they all knew it was down hill since Alexander), but it wasn't getting them anywhere. Especially now that Tegan had left. So she was chewing her lip a little as she came across Carmilla, and smiled a bit.

"Hey, Lady, Hey." She said in a cheerful enough tone. "What's shaking today?"

Carmilla was on her way to speak with Elisha. She was a silent presence in Club Castle and yet she, along with Karin and the other household staff, added some continuity to a Suit that was rapidly changing. She noticed the approach of the Clubs' accountant.

"Hello, Leona," she sighed. "A little too much is shaking for my tastes. The foundations of Club Castle, for instance." The Housekeeper had a solid working relationship with Argine. Her respect for the Queen was such that Carmilla had not even taken advantage of Argine's poor health. In retrospect, a challenge would have made things simpler than waiting for Argine to retire but there was also Eileen's well being to consider.

"I'd very much like some good news. Shall I ask after our finances?"

"Only if you want a bit of good with bad on the side." Which wasn't terribly true. The books were balanced, everything was running smooth...She might well be dismayed at the budget request she's been getting for the next year though. Some people- honestly, did they not know that they couldn't increase their budgets if they couldn't use all of the one they had now?

"All is well, though. It is a bit of a miracle, but no fear- Leona Matthews is a master of numbers." Who knew by just looking at her.

"Naughty rather than bad, Dear," she proposed. "Everyone likes a bit of mischief, provided it is confined to your personal life and does not seep into your impeccable work ethic."

"Hello, Carmilla," Elisha said as the Nine knocked lightly before coming into his office. There was far too much going on this week for his liking, and most of it involved the two empty Face spots.

"Busy day?"

Carmilla had actually invited herself in before Elisha called on her, being rather eager.

"As busy as I ought to be, Sire," she said briskly. Her king was troubled and was not in a position to act as her confidant. Straight to business it is then. "As I am sure you, of all people, are aware, this Suit is in need of Faces. I believe I would make a fair candidate for Queen. Since I cannot challenge our retired Queen for the position, I understand it is customary for me to approach you to settle the matter of succession. I will prepare myself accordingly."

There was a bit of a pause, though not as startled as when Karin had announced that she was planning to challenge up two ranks. Carmilla was the housekeeper, but she'd also, in a way, been Argine's right-hand woman. A Nine and the Queen's lady-in-waiting.

"I'm considering several candidates," he said, tilting his head to one side. "You are among them.

"Why do you think you'd be the best choice?"

Working closely with Argine had certainly given Carmilla some insight into the role of a queen. However, the association could easily work against her; people would assume that she was a mere reflection of her former mistress. Carmilla did not agree with many of Argine's decisions, and had even made some of her views known to her mistress, but she did not spread rumours. She was, after all, employed to counteract rampant gossip rather than add to it.

"Thank you, that instills confidence," she replied. "I would let my actions, over empty words, vouch for me. You will receive a letter shortly. It will detail my achievements thus far, along with my plans for the future of our Suit. Is there anything else you'd like me to add?"

An essay of sorts, Elisha thought, his lips curving upwards. He liked the idea of it, honestly, something firm and intellectual. And like them.

That was important to him, rebuilding the Suit that Andrew and Edgar had fostered, even if he'd only known one of those Kings. "Do you want to be Queen?"

Essay-writing was familiar territory; it was a happy coincidence that the activity corresponded with the Club ideology. Carmilla too, wanted the Clubs to become more like the Suit she had joined over twenty years ago.

She paused to consider her king's question, "I want to see the Clubs prosper, as you do, and I think I am the best person available to assist in making that happen."

It's a better answer, really, than a simple yes. It's less about ambition. Or, at least, it's less about personal ambition, and more ambition for their Suit.

And for the Deck.

"I think you're a person worthy of serious consideration," he says, and he chooses his words carefully. "And Eileen and I look forward to your letter."

"Thank you, Sire." She dips her head as protocol would have it but there is a mischievous smile on her face. If she were chosen as Queen, Elisha would find her to be a little more opinionated than what he was accustomed to. Although he was one of the better kings she had served under, so she would not give him too much grief.

Pierre has not been a fan of much of anyone this week, although he's making a valiant effort to recover from the conversation with Elisha. Tables need to turn and things need to change -- quickly. He will not see some small, frail little thing become Jack when it's he who should be in that office. It simply will not happen.

So if his head is somewhere else when the Nine enters to clear things away, well. He probably won't ever apologize because he's an asshole, but worse things could happen. He could have thrown a knife when his door opened, but he didn't. Surely, that's a sign of a Good Day.

If Carmilla came across any knife holes in the doors and walls of the castle, she would know just who to confront about it.

"You look like thunder, milord," she observed. "Might I suggest that you take your frustrations outside where you may freely impale targets rather than unsuspecting servants."

...Well, for what it's worth, Pierre wasn't the only one with deadly aim with a knife. He wasn't the only one who threw them when frustrated. He might be one of few who didn't care as much who it imbedded itself in, though.

"I've not yet put holes in anyone today, and I don't expect to, Miss Montenegro. If that changes, I'm sure you'll be among the firs to know." His lineface is more epic than the average epic lineface.

Even so, Carmilla is keeping a beady eye on him. Pierre has to admit that, of all the Clubs, he is the most likely to leave destruction in his wake.

"It's Mrs Montenegro," she corrected him. "Should you feel such a change coming on, I would ask that you vacate Club Castle. It is very difficult to clean bloodstains from the carpets."

"I've never left bloodstains on the carpet," he answered simply.

Because it doesn't matter how capable he is of killing people; he doesn't, often. In fact, he knows his precise count, and it's surprisingly low, considering what most people assume of him.

"Oh crack a smile why don't you, Pierre. Surely you've been among the Clubs long enough to recognise playful banter when you hear it?" she asked teasingly.

He was the one who chose to exude danger, Carmilla was just playing along. She suspected Pierre secretly enjoyed people reacting to the reputation he had carved for himself.

Pierre enjoyed not being underestimated. It was rare that someone tried him without purpose, and he was almost never given shit, with exception to a select few's...somewhat interesting sense of humor.

"Of course I do, Carmilla. But even so, it is an important note to make. I've not once left a stain that was difficult to clean up, have I?" No. No he hasn't. There was a bloodstain in a bedsheet once from a rather interesting foray in the bedroom, but he'd never repeated the incident.
